Marilyn Monroe look-alike is mistakenly blamed as icon’s home faces demolition; Brentwood hopes to save it
The last home of Marilyn Monroe in Brentwood, California, is set to be demolished, sparking outrage among fans of the Hollywood icon. The Spanish Colonial-style residence, which Monroe lived in from 1962 until her death that August, is currently owned by a company called Glory of the Snow LLC. The company has not responded to requests for comment on its plans for the property.
In the meantime, Marilyn Monroe look-alike Jasmine Chiswell has been mistakenly blamed for the demolition. Chiswell, who lives in the Runyon Canyon mansion where Monroe and her second husband, New York Yankees star Joe DiMaggio, lived in 1953, has been the target of online abuse from people who believe she is responsible for the loss of Monroe's Brentwood home.
"I'm not the one who's tearing down the house," Chiswell told the Los Angeles Times. "I'm just a fan who lives in a house that Marilyn Monroe used to live in."
Brentwood residents are also hoping to save Monroe's Brentwood home. A former member of the Brentwood Homeowners Association has started a petition to landmark the property. The petition has garnered over 1,000 signatures so far.
"This is a piece of history," the petition organizer said. "We need to do everything we can to save it."
It is unclear whether the petition will be successful, but it is clear that there is a strong desire to preserve Marilyn Monroe's Brentwood home. The property is a reminder of the star's final days, and it is a place where her fans can still come to pay their respects.
The demolition of Monroe's Brentwood home is a sad reminder of the fleeting nature of celebrity. But it is also a reminder of the power of her legacy. Even after her death, Marilyn Monroe continues to inspire and captivate people all over the world.
